The ELT Research Journal is a bi-annual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal that publishes original contributions for language educators globally. It aims to showcase intellectual contributions that are informed of local sensibilities and show awareness of international trends and theoretical advancements in the field. It is a sister journal of SPELT Quarterly Journal (SQJ) which has been a popular read among ELT enthusiasts for quality articles in theoretical and pedagogical domains since 1985.

Author's Guidelines

Formatting Guidelines

  • - The script should adhere to the following structure, abstract, introduction,           literature review methods, results, discussion, and conclusions.

  • - Figures and tables should be labeled.

  • - References and citations must follow APA 7th Edition formatting style

  • - Recheck your script to eliminate any grammatical or punctuation errors

General Submission Guidelines

  • - The formatting of the manuscript should be consistent throughout the script

  • - All the external references must be cited in order to avoid plagiarism

  • - In case a of a self-citation, author must mention their actual name and date of the commencement of their previous work

  • - The manuscript should be of general interest to the ELTRJ's readership

  • - The manuscript must align theory and practice

  • - The manuscript should be well-structured and written in style which is even understandable to reader exclusive of the field of the study

  • - The subject should offer some original insight which would make some useful contribution to the field

  • - The manuscript should reflect sound scholarship and research design with appropriate, correctly interpreted references to other authors and works.

Quantitative Studies

Studies subjected to quantitative analysis/research must include:

  • - Descriptive statistics followed by a brief reasoning supporting the observed patterns

  • - Data representation should best demonstrate the statistical findings of the study

  • - The grounds of selecting a certain statistical approach for the analyses accompanied by statistical significance, including exact p-values and effect sizes, pertaining to the hypothesis of the research

  • - The authors should adhere to p-values for the statistical significance however the results should not be considered solely on basis of p-values

  • - A brief report on validity and reliability of the instruments used in the research

Qualitative studies

Studies subjected to the qualitative analysis/research must include:

  • - Conceptual or theoretical framework to guide the current study

  • - Literature Review of the existing knowledge of the subject of the research

  • - References of the data sources used

  • - Purpose of the current study

  • - Must ensure that the methodology is established based on the selected theoretical framework

  • - Information concerning how the data sources were analyzed or coded

  • - Information regarding researcher positionality

Mixed-method Studies

The authors using mixed methods must adhere to guidelines mentioned above for quantitative and qualitative studies. In addition, the author is required to implement a three-step method to generate a report which must include:

  • - Description of the type of the mixed-method design, (e.g., the convergent design, the exploratory sequential design, the explanatory sequential design),

  • - data integration procedure

  • - and integrated results

Full length Articles

Manuscripts should be 4000-7000 words including references, notes, and tables, relevant to the recent research in the area. Mention the total number of words at the end of the document.

Discussion Papers

Manuscripts of maximum 2500 words dealing with the introduction of a model, best practice, process with immediate application in respective field, critical analysis, opinions, discussions, field-related organizational or international experiences, and perspectives.

Ethical Guidelines

Ethical Guidelines for Authors

Authors’ hold primary responsibility to ensure that intentionally or unintentionally, the integrity of the study must not be compromised under any circumstances. As an academic, an author is accountable not only to the journal committee or publisher but to the whole community of academia. Hence, an author should abide by all the ethical guidelines as instructed by the journal.

Authorship Criteria

The authorship credits should be shared only if a significant contribution is made related to the framework, methodology, research and analytical interpretation of data in the reported study.  Such contributors are recognized as co-authors. All the other participation in association to the study must be appreciated as an acknowledgment.

The journal committee has a right to suspend the authorship credits if the contribution is not substantial to the study.

Contribution Details

The manuscript must contain a description of all the contributions made by co-authors and affiliated individuals involved in this study. The contribution details should be listed under following categories:

  • - Concept design

  • - definition of intellectual content

  • - literature search

  • - Experimental studies

  • - data acquisition

  • - data analysis

  • - statistical analysis

  • - manuscript preparation

  • - manuscript editing

  • - manuscript review

The author is required to mention details of his/her contributions as well. The ‘guarantor’ will be the author who will take responsibility for the ethical conduct at every stage of the study. If any misconduct is reported the guarantor will be held accountable for it. The contribution should also include the details of all the financial sources.

Research Guidelines for Ethical Conduct

  • - Standards of Report: if an author undergoes original research, then he/she is required to present a detailed report of the entire process as well as highlight the objective of the study. The research should be replicable and sufficient should be provided to repeat the experiment. Manipulation of data would be subject to unethical conduct on author behalf.

  • - Use of Patients images and case details: An informed consent must be taken from the patients and the volunteers involved in the study. Also, the author must retain a written consent prior to publication of any images or case details of the subject.

Ethics of Submission

  • - Originality and plagiarism: The manuscript must contain original content and should not be similar to any previously published papers. If the author has used any reference of published sources, then it must be cited appropriately.

  • - Data access and retention: The raw data should be preserved and organized in order to be presented later if asked by the journal committee for publishing. Also, the experiment should retain the same data patterns if repeated in any event.

  • - Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication: The author is discouraged to submit a manuscript describing a previously published research of his own in another journal or the primary publication. Any such submission accounts for unethical behavior from the author’s side

  • - References and citations: The author must cite all the content used from the published sources. Any information obtained from an external source which is not published yet must not be used without the written consent of the source. Also, the author should refrain from using any information from confidential sources such as grant applications or peer reviews.

  • - Conflict of Interest: In any event, if there exists an actual or a potential conflict of interest then the author should present a disclosure of the source of conflict. This may influence the editorial decisions and journal’s call to publish or not the disclosure.

The author must add a “Disclosure Statement” at the end of the manuscript to allow the editorial board and the audience to establish an unbiased judgment of the study. This requires the author to reveal the name of an organization or a person which has influenced the root of the conflict.

  • - Identification of errors: If an author identifies an error or a flaw in his own study, it's his/her responsibility to notify the journal as early as possible.
