Zakia Sarwar is a veteran classroom practitioner and teacher educator. She is also one of the founding members of SPELT who has played a crucial role in establishing and sustaining SPELT. She has also been a classroom researcher for over four decades, and her experience and activities of Project-based Learning in EFL contexts in Pakistan and Nepal have been internationally published and recognized. She firmly believes that the professional development opportunities provided by Teacher Associations, specially in developing countries, make class room practitioners agents of change.
Her fields of interests are classroom teacher research in EFL contexts, learner autonomy, teacher education, materials development, and teaching language through literature. She has a number of national and international, publications and awards to her credit, and has presented at conferences like TESOL, IATEFL, RELC Singapore JALT JAPAN, BELTA Bangladesh & NELTA Nepal SLELTA Sri Lanka and India
