SPELT in Collaboration with

Reading is often enacted as a sedentary endeavor.  Good readers have the ability to sit still and take in the rich language presented to them in English.  What about our struggling students?  How do we teach emerging readers to engage critically with text that is so complex in terms of challenging vocabulary and syntactical constructs, that they can barely keep their heads above water?

READING ON YOUR FEET will involve teachers in

  • Becoming aware of how to engage every child in the classroom
  • Engaging students in sophisticated language for reading
  • Experiencing active reading strategies
  • Planning grouping
  • Assessing learning
